How to Begin a Teen Prayer Ministry

  1. Vision (Proverbs 29:18 – Where there is no vision the people perish.)You must first see it to seize it!
  2. Preparation
    1. Leadership – Everything rises and falls on leadership.
      1. Select the right personA good reputation, consistent prayer life, love for teens
        A desire to develop teens and willing to take weekly responsibility
      2. Select the right prayer leadership teamA desire to pray, a servant’s heart and wiling to accept responsibility
    2. Meeting timeBe family friendly by choosing a time they are already coming to church. Thirty minutes before a scheduled service is a great place to start.
    3. Location of meeting
      1. Select a room that is accessible and versatile.
      2. Atmosphere
        1. Music – there are many praise and worship tapes you can purchase or you may want to record your own.
        2. Lighting – the room should be dimly lit.
        3. Room arrangement – choose an arrangement that would allow for kneeling, sitting or walking.
        4. Prayer focus material – provide verses on the wall, Bibles or an announced topic for focused prayer.
  3. Implementation
    1. Advertisement
      1. Announce time and place in main meeting
      2. Announce teen prayer coordinator
      3. Print time and place on publication that advertises your church services
      4. Announce weekly in all teen Sunday school classes
  4. Follow up
    1. Relational maintenance
